In the past, Pacific Forest Rally was held on the Battle Creek roads of Cache Creek, BC. As the event grew in size and popularity, the demand for a larger venue and fresh road systems made the City of Merritt, BC a natural choice. With the supportive environment of the businesses, land owners, ranchers and Ministries of the government, it has made for a speedy transition. The central highway access has also made for excellent attraction to competitors from across the border, from Washington and Oregon. The friendly people of Merritt have welcomed rallying in the most hospitable atmosphere.

In conjunction with our summer exhibition The Tree: From the Sublime to the Social, local artist Jim Kalnin has created temporary charcoal drawings on the walls in The Front project space.
Kalnin’s tree drawings will incorporate images from various kinds of human activity, including art, culture, politics, and technology, expressing the view that everything humans have created relies on nature for its existence. Kalnin used natural charcoal that he made from trees that once grew in his yard.

BC Seniors Games is an annual, multi-sport event hosted by a different B.C. Community each year. They are one of the largest Games organized within B.C. with approximately 3,800 participants, aged 55 plus from all over the Province. Games will be hosted by Comox Valley and Campbell River from September 15 to 18 this year. With events being held at the Vanier school and track, the Comox Valley Curling Club, the Native Sons Hall, and the Florence Filberg Centre, and the closing ceremonies being held at Sims Park; many of the participants and volunteers will be visiting downtown Courtenay for a substantial portion of the time. The Stage in the Park, commonly known as the 'Cameron Bandshell', is an outdoor performance venue located off of Arbutus Way and Bridge Way in the heart of Victoria's renowned Beacon Hill Park. School District #60 will be hosting a PALS (Parents as Literacy Supporters) training workshop on Friday September 3rd from 9am to 3pm.
PALS is a literacy program that provides parents and caregivers strategies to encourage early literacy and learning development with their preschool and kindergarten-aged children.
The workshop includes and overview of PALS, an introduction to resources, a discussion of the program framework and logistics of delivering a program, a demonstration of session themes.
